Rehabilitation & Complex Injury – Case Management Recruitment

Appointment of Rehabilitation Case Manager

Client: Confidential (Private Sector Rehabilitation Provider)
Role: Rehabilitation Case Manager

The Challenge

Our client, a private sector rehabilitation provider, was urgently seeking a highly experienced Rehabilitation Case Manager to support clients across Scotland. The ideal candidate needed strong clinical expertise in areas such as brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, complex orthopaedic injuries, or burns, and the ability to work independently in a hybrid model.

Despite offering a competitive salary and excellent benefits—including flexible working, CPD support, and a car allowance—the client had struggled for months to identify suitable talent within this specialist clinical field. The Scottish market proved particularly difficult due to:

  • A limited talent pool with the required level of post-registration experience
  • High demand across both public and private sectors for complex rehabilitation clinicians
  • A lack of visibility for the role among passive candidates

The client needed a strategic partner who could engage high-calibre professionals—even those not actively looking—and bring someone onboard quickly.

Our Approach

  1. Role Definition & Market Mapping: Worked closely with the clinical lead to refine the profile and identify competitor organisations employing suitable talent.
  2. Discreet Outreach: Approached candidates in similar roles at competing providers, focusing on those with a track record in complex injury rehabilitation and case management.
  3. Tailored Positioning: Highlighted the benefits of the hybrid working model, long-term career development, and the client’s strong reputation in rehabilitation outcomes.
  4. Screening & Evaluation: Assessed candidates for clinical competency, client-centred communication, and alignment with the client's values.
  5. Negotiation & Onboarding: Supported the offer process and transition plan, ensuring the candidate felt fully supported in leaving their existing employer.

The Outcome

We successfully placed a Rehabilitation Case Manager with over five years’ experience in community-based neuro and orthopaedic rehabilitation. The candidate was headhunted from a direct competitor and brought strong clinical insight along with a deep understanding of the Scottish health and legal landscape.

The appointment marked a major success for the client after an extended period of recruitment difficulty and has significantly enhanced their capacity to deliver complex, outcome-focused case management services in the region.

“We had tried everything—we just couldn’t reach the right candidates. The headhunting strategy delivered not only a great clinician, but someone who’s had an immediate impact on service delivery.”
